The chapter has been taken from “Long walk to Freedom”. Long walk to

Freedom (2013) is an autobiography. This book depicts his struggle against

apartheid” or say “Racial Segregation” He is no lesser than Mahatma

Gandhi. Like Mahatma Gandhi, he is world acknowledged.

“Apartheid’ or “racial Segregation was the deep-rooted social follies in the

Society of South Africa. Black people were not allowed to enter in

Restaurants, pub, travel through first class train compartment. They were

Even not allowed to walk on pedestrians. Such was the worst condition

Black people were deprived of their own natural human rights.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison, most of them isolated

On Robben Island off the coast of cape Town, South Africa.

Mandela fought for equality and justice.

Nelson Mandela became the first black PRESIDENT ON 9th May 1994. Mandela’s political party won 252 seats out of 400.

Finally, first democratic election held in South Africa and Nelson Mandela

became the first black PRESIDENT ON 9th May 1994. Mandela’s political

party won 252 seats out of 400.

Large number of delegates were from almost every country were invited to

make their benign presence felt in the historical ceremony. The ceremony

took place in lovely sandstone amphitheatre formed by the Union Buildings

 in Pretoria.

.
Two National Anthems were sung because there were two races- black

and white. Both the races were happy on this occasion.

Simply the sum of all those patriots”

Mandela speak that the freedom from the racial rule is the result of the

effort all those great men. He is just the last.

“Depths of oppression” create “height of character” . Mandela illustrates this

by saying that the decades of oppression and brutality produced many

patriots like the Oliver Tambo, the Walter Sisulus, the Chief Luthulis, the

Yusuf  Dadoos, the Bram Fishers, the Robert Sobukwes.

Mandela’s hunger was not limited to himself. It was his desire for his people

to live their lives with dignity and self respect that animated his life. It

changed a frightened young man into a bold one.

The world will always remember Nelson Mandela for the contribution of

eradicating “Racial Segregation”  and for promoting equality between

different sections of human race.

Summary of " A Letter to God "

Lencho was a farmer. He lived in the one and only house in the valley with family. He had just

ploughed the field and was expecting for rain. He could predict by looking at the sky. Very soon they

were going to have good rain, he told so to his wife. As the family was taking supper, it started

raining as was expected. Big and small raindrops were down-pouring on the field. Lencho was happy

and called the rain drops " new coins ". Suddenly the windy rain turned into a storm. Hailstones

started falling on the field. It destroyed whole of the crop. Not a single leaf  was left. Such was the

drastic destruction made by the hailstones. Lencho's heart cried on that fatal loss. All his hardwotk

had gone waste. He was worried of what he would feed to his family the next year. No body was

there to help him in such critical situation. But he had a great faith in God and His kindness. So he

resolved to write a letter to God asking for 100 Pesos (currency of Spain). He wrote and put the letter

in an envelope and wrote "To God' over the envelope. He left for the city post office, reached there,

pasted a stamp on the envelope and posted it. Soon, the letter was read by the Post master and other

staff.
They laughed on finding a letter written to God. But the post master was a good person. He did not want to shake Lencho's faith in God. The post master decided to send 100 Pesos to Lencho. He appealed to his staff and other to contribute for that. Finally he could collect only 70 Pesos.

wrapped the money in a parcel signed on it as God. Lencho was not at all surprised to find the money

parcel, it shows how strong was his faith in God. As soon as he opened the parcel, he got angry to

find 70 Pesos rather than 100 Pesos. He immediately started writing another letter to God. He wrote

that the post office staff is a bunch of crooks. He complained that he had received only 70 Pesos, and

the rest of the money (30 Pesos) were kept by the post office staff. He further wrote in the letter that

God should send him the rest of the money because 70 Pesos were not enough. He also wrote that

this time God must not send him the rest of the money through post office because the post office

staff is a bunch of crook and keep the rest of the money.
